Last fall, we introduced Mission Monday as a reimagining of what learning could look like in our school community. It was an intentional shift toward experiences that form the whole student: mind, body, and spirit. As we conclude our first full year of implementation, it is clear that Mission Monday has not only met expectations but, in many ways, exceeded them.
Throughout the year, our students engaged in a wide range of meaningful, hands-on experiences that extended far beyond the traditional classroom. These opportunities were rooted in purpose and aligned with our core values, allowing students to actively live out their faith while developing critical real-world skills.
Some of the most impactful Mission Monday experiences included service-centered initiatives that connected students directly with the needs of their local community. Students participated in projects focused on caring for others, supporting local organizations, and living out the call to serve. In alignment with our Franciscan value of Care for Creation, students also engaged in environmentally focused activities, taking time to reflect on stewardship and their responsibility to protect and preserve God’s creation.
In addition to service, students explored career pathways and developed life skills through immersive, real-world learning experiences. These opportunities allowed them to collaborate, problem-solve, and engage with professionals and community members in meaningful ways. The result has been a deeper understanding of how their education connects to life beyond high school.
A key component of Mission Monday has been our intentional effort to listen and grow. Throughout the year, we gathered feedback from a variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and board members. Across all groups, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Students have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn in different ways and to engage more deeply with their peers and community. Parents have noted the positive impact on their children’s enthusiasm for school and personal growth. Teachers have valued the flexibility to connect with students in new ways, and board members have recognized Mission Monday as a forward-thinking model that aligns with our mission as a Catholic school.
Beyond the experiences themselves, Mission Monday has also had a meaningful impact on the overall rhythm of the school week. One unexpected but welcomed outcome has been the reduction of “Sunday stress.” That familiar pressure students often feel when preparing for the week ahead or teachers have as they scramble to prepare. By intentionally structuring Mondays to include experiential learning and built-in time for support, students are able to begin their week with a sense of purpose rather than pressure.

Our afternoon office hours have become another cornerstone of the program’s success. This dedicated time has provided students with greater access to individualized academic support, allowing teachers to meet one-on-one with those who need additional guidance. At the same time, it has created valuable space for student organizations and clubs to meet, collaborate, and grow. This balance of support and opportunity has strengthened both academic outcomes and student engagement.
Most importantly, Mission Monday has contributed to growth in the areas that matter most: faith, service, and knowledge. Students are not only learning – they are becoming. They are developing a deeper sense of who they are, how they are called to serve others, and how they can make a meaningful impact in the world around them.
As we reflect on this first year, we are incredibly grateful for the support and openness of our entire school community. Innovation requires trust, and our students, families, faculty, and leadership have embraced this journey with a shared commitment to what is best for our learners.
Mission Monday is no longer just an idea – it is a proven part of our school culture. And while we celebrate the success of this year, we are even more excited about what lies ahead. We look forward to refining, expanding, and deepening these experiences in the years to come, continuing to reimagine learning in ways that are purposeful, impactful, and rooted in our mission.
The work is just beginning.
