Conference Strands
Engaging Diverse Learners – This strand is an exploration of inclusive teaching practices, recognizing that diversity encompasses a broad spectrum of factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language, culture, abilities, and more. Concepts related to Universal Design for Learning (UDL), blended learning, and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) will be highlighted. It will delve into the principles of inclusive education, emphasizing not only the importance of diversity but also equity, accessibility, and belonging.
Curriculum Design – This strand is designed to empower educators with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to create dynamic, student-centered curricula which fosters problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Participants will dive into the principles of middle years education, incorporating the latest research on adolescent development and best practices in curriculum design, instruction, and pedagogy.
Fostering Social and Emotional Learning – This strand focuses on the essential role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in middle school education. It recognizes that students who are emotionally and socially competent are better equipped to navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and excel academically. Educators will explore the theory, principles, and practical strategies for integrating SEL into their teaching, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Technology Integration – This strand offers a broad exploration of technology integration in the middle school classroom, emphasizing not only the practical aspects of using technology but also the pedagogical strategies which make it effective. Educators will learn how to create a technology-rich learning environment which supports the development of 21st-century skills, including digital literacy, collaboration, and creativity.
Assessment Strategies for Growth – This strand explores assessment strategies which go beyond traditional testing and grading. Educators will explore formative and summative assessment techniques designed to inspire and support student growth. Participants will delve into the theory, research, and practical applications of assessments which drive learning outcomes and promote a growth mindset.
Collaborative Learning Communities – This strand offers a deep exploration of the power of collaborative learning communities, emphasizing their role in elevating teaching practices, enhancing student outcomes, and fostering professional growth. Participants will delve into the theory and practical application of collaboration, uncovering the transformative potential it holds for educators and students alike.
