We are thrilled to unveil the Future-Focused Learning Series, a groundbreaking initiative that strives to create transformative support for the educators in our great state. This visionary project is the result of a remarkable collaboration between the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and the Educational Service Centers of Indiana (ESCI). Together, we embark on a journey to pave the way for an innovative, inclusive, and future-focused learning experience for all Indiana students.

Collaboration Driving Transformation

At the core of the Future-Focused Learning Series lies the synergy between IDOE and ESCI. Drawing upon their collective expertise and insights, these two esteemed organizations have joined forces to create a series of powerful learning opportunities to empower educators and transform classrooms. By pooling resources, knowledge, and perspectives, IDOE and ESCI are making strides towards a unified vision for education in Indiana.

This partnership reflects the dedication and commitment of both organizations to provide educators with the support and resources they need to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of education. It emphasizes a shared goal: to foster a culture of lifelong learning and equip students with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

Three Types of Standards released in 2023

In the 2022 and 2023 sessions, the Indiana State legislation revealed a proactive approach towards enhancing education and empowering students for the future. In response to evolving educational needs, the legislation called for a comprehensive review of the existing academic standards. The resulting changes, including the streamlining and prioritizing of standards, and the creation of the Integrated STEM and Early Learning standards, aimed to provide a cohesive and forward-thinking framework which equips Indiana students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing world.

1. Streamlined and Prioritized Standards Across the K-12 Content Areas

The Future-Focused Learning Series will showcase the 2023 streamlined and prioritized standards across all K-12 content areas. These standards have been thoughtfully curated to focus on essential concepts, allowing educators to dive deeper into content, foster critical thinking, and ignite curiosity in students.

Gone are the days of sifting through an overwhelming number of standards; instead, educators can now concentrate on the most crucial concepts, enabling a more profound understanding and application of knowledge. This transformation empowers teachers to design innovative and engaging lessons, cultivating an environment where students flourish academically and creatively.

2. Newly Released Integrated STEM Standards

Imagine a world where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics converge seamlessly in the classroom. The Future-Focused Learning Series will begin the conversation on how to bring this vision to life through the newly released Integrated STEM Standards. These standards emphasize the integration of disciplines to foster a holistic understanding of real-world challenges.

Through these standards, students embark on a captivating journey of cross-curricular collaboration, hands-on problem-solving, and experiential learning. STEM education becomes a dynamic space where students apply their knowledge in meaningful ways, preparing them to tackle the complexities of the future with confidence and creativity.

3. Newly Released Early Learning Standards

The Future-Focused Learning Series is excited to introduce educators to the newly released Early Learning Standards which aim to nurture the love of learning from the very beginning. These standards cater to our youngest learners, providing a strong foundation for a lifelong journey of curiosity and exploration.

Embracing play-based learning, these standards foster creativity, communication, and collaboration in young children. Educators are empowered to create vibrant and engaging early childhood environments, ensuring that our little learners thrive and develop essential skills from an early age.

Future-Focused Learning Series of Events

The Future-Focused Learning Series encompasses a multi-modal learning journey for educators across Indiana. As part of this transformative initiative, educators can participate in a series of events designed to equip them with the tools, strategies, and knowledge needed to explore and implement the new standards effectively.

1. In-Person Summits

These one-day in-person summits, hosted by ESCI and IDOE, will take place at various locations across the state. Educators from different grade levels and subject areas will come together to engage in interactive learning experiences and professional development. Through dynamic workshops, presentations, and discussions, educators will gain valuable insights and strategies to enhance their instructional practices.

2. Online Courses

The Future-Focused Learning Series offers a series of online courses accessible to educators statewide through the Indiana Learning Lab. These self-paced courses are tailored to provide guidance and support for implementing the Indiana Academic Standards in various content areas. Educators can access the courses at their convenience on their own or with a grade-level or content-area team, allowing for flexible learning and personalized professional development.

3. School Year Workshops

The learning journey continues throughout the academic year with a series of school year workshops. These workshops, designed to support educators in their implementation of the new standards, provide hands-on training and collaborative problem-solving sessions. Educators will have the opportunity to share best practices, collaborate with peers, and reflect on their teaching approaches.
