Don’t Risk Going to Jail: The Duty to Report Child Abuse or Neglect – a Counselor Connect event

Contributed by: Keep Indiana Learning

September 15, 2022

Under Indiana law, everyone has a duty to report child abuse or neglect. Nonetheless, most people do not fully understand what they have to report, when they have to report it or to whom the report needs to be made. Teachers, counselors, administrators and all school staff are at risk of being charged with a criminal offense themselves for failing to make a proper report in a timely manner. Attorney Joel Hand will share his experiences dealing with these issues and cases as well as an overview of the statutory requirements and applicable appellate court decisions.
