“From planning to establishing norms and even emergency sub plans, let’s dive into practical strategies that not only enhance teaching and learning in your classroom, but also make your life easier!”
Planning Ahead: The weeks leading up to the start of the school year are always packed with those final summer bucket list items, getting your classroom ready, and planning for the year ahead. Now is the perfect time to dive into EVERFI’s content library and identify lessons to integrate into your curriculum throughout the year. Here’s what’s new:
- Healthier Me: Imagine little minds buzzing with health tips! Our new course teaches upper elementary students how to keep their minds and bodies in tip-top shape. Through a story-based narrative, students join a group of friends called the Everfinders on a series of adventures as they explore topics like nutrition, exercise, hygiene, and sleep.
- FutureSmart: Middle school educators, listen up! This course gives your students a backstage pass to real-life money decisions. Plus, we’ve got shiny new guided notes for each lesson to help you support your students.
- Financial Literacy for High School: From bank accounts to credit smarts, we’ve got it all! Career exploration? Yep, that too! Our new Financial Literacy Collection will help you tackle the personal finance requirement.
Perhaps you even want to commit to a classroom routine like “Money Mondays” or “Fi Fridays” where your students are working independently on EVERFI courses. Routines like this can enhance student engagement and reinforce learning.
Establishing Classroom Norms: Setting the stage for a positive and respectful learning environment is so crucial in those first few weeks of school and EVERFI has you covered! Use our turnkey resources as a tool for establishing classroom norms. Your students can explore character education lessons that emphasize empathy, digital citizenships, and responsible behavior.
- Elementary School Magic: Start with The Compassion Project. It’s like a superhero cape for empathy! Students explore self-awareness, kindness, and understanding. By the end, they’ll be empathy experts!
- Middle School Tech Wizards: Check out how this creative teacher uses our digital wellness course to build her first week of school lesson plans and establish classroom norms around devices.
- High School MVPs: Sponsored by the NFL, Character Playbook teaches relationship skills. It’s like a playbook for your classroom community—communication, conflict resolution, and emotional management. Touchdown!
If possible, let students shape classroom norms based on the values promoted by EVERFI’s content. They’ll feel like co-captains of the classroom ship!
Supporting and Extending Learning: Throughout the year, EVERFI’s resources empower you to both support and extend learning for students without extra work on your part.
- Revisit & Reinforce: Students can revisit relevant EVERFI lessons to reinforce mathematical concepts or provide additional literacy support.
- Assessments, Take Two: Students can retake our in-platform assessments until mastery is achieved and there’s no extra grading for you!
- Supplemental Awesomeness: Pear Decks, Kahoots, and Canva activities—oh my! Integrate these supplemental gems for a rich learning experience. Online + offline = student engagement jackpot!
Emergency Sub Plans: If you’re like many teachers, you may be asked to submit emergency lesson plans at the start of the new school year. Once your students have logged into the EVERFI platform, it’s easy for you to select 1 or 2 courses that aren’t tied to specific units and add them to your class setup at the beginning of the year. Simply keep them “locked” until you need to use them. This way, you’ll have engaging content ready for substitutes and tracking student progress will be a breeze!
We know that our standards-aligned, research-based digital lessons will empower you at the start of the new school year and help your students thrive in an ever-changing world.
