Self-Care in a Selfless Field
Contributed by: Keep Indiana Learning
Teaching is hard, and educators selflessly give so much of themselves. There are the social-emotional demands to meet the needs of children and teens, many of whom are dealing with trauma. There is the consumption of our attention–making hundreds of decisions every day with very little cognitive downtime. Add in the busy physical nature of the job, when we can’t even find time to stay hydrated. We’re always “on,” and burnout and secondary trauma are real. BUT– we know, deep-down, we love what we do, and we feel called to do it. In this session, participants will not just learn about the four facets of self-care, but they will walk away with a well-developed personal plan for the areas of physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological (mental).
