Visible Learning in the Math Classroom
Mathematics is about problem-solving and critical thinking, not just about skills and procedures. Certainly, students need to be able to ‘DO’ the mathematics but they also need to understand, justify and critique. When we ask students to engage in Depth of Knowledge 3 questions, we are asking them to engage in this type of higher order thinking. However, it can be challenging to teach students to be successful at these tasks. In this session, we will discuss how to identify these tasks and how to use specific strategies to support student success with DOK 3 tasks. These are the types of tasks students struggle with on ILEARN and you will learn how to help them experience success.
