Virtually Different: Leveraging the LMS to Design and Deliver Professional Learning – Part 1
School districts everywhere want to give teachers access to professional development opportunities, but with budgets tight, tensions high, and time short, PD needs to appeal to teacher interests and not have the appearance of a mandate. While it’s not the only answer, school districts should look inward to provide virtually different PD for staff, leveraging the strengths and expertise within the district and the tools and resources available through learning management systems and virtualized meeting spaces. In this session, we’ll examine the importance of looking at virtualized PD, we’ll discuss samples and features available through free LMS tools such as Canvas and Google Classroom, and we’ll highlight considerations districts should include when creating virtually different opportunities for teacher growth.
