What does that A mean that you just put on Jonah’s report card? Did he master the content? Did he behave well? Did he bring in extra boxes of tissue? What about this new ‘no zero’ policy I’ve been hearing about? Should practice be part of the report card?  If grading is a sticky point for you, or if you feel like you have a system that works, please join us for this important and timely discussion.  Three virtual meetings will be accompanied by short activities in Canvas designed to deepen your understanding.  Attending all virtual classes and completing all Canvas activities will earn you up to 6 PGPs.  You will also receive Thomas Guskey’s book What We Know About Grading: What Works, What Doesn’t, and What’s Next.

Learning Intention(s):
  1. Share current practices and engage in discussion about our own beliefs around grading
  2. Investigate alternative ways to assess students and assign grades
  3. Reflect on our own practices to see if our methods of assigning grades matches our beliefs about achievement and grade reporting
