Cultural Comprehension and Working with LGBTQ+ Students

This training session is designed to help build our understanding and develop cultural comprehension as it relates to working with LGBTQIA+ students. Youth who identify as LGBTQI+ are more likely to be marginalized and at risk for bullying, homelessness, and running away. This workshop will present a culturally comprehensive approach to understanding the needs of this youth subpopulation and strategies for creating positive relationships and environments that allow them to thrive.
Learning Intention(s):
- Learn or become familiar with basic terminology
- Recognize specific vulnerabilities of LGBTQ+ persons in and out of the classroom
- Learn how to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ persons and strengthen relationships with the community and existing resources
