The session will share actionable ideas, highlight collaborative approaches, and offer guidance to better serve homeless youth through coordinated services and informed advocacy.
Charie Jones
Homeless Education Specialist, Indiana Department of Education
Charie Jones is the Homeless Education Specialist for the Indiana Department of Education. Charie worked for over 9 years as the McKinney-Vento Liaison and ESSA Foster Care POC for Indianapolis Public Schools. While at Indianapolis Public Schools, Charie provided support and guidance for Homeless and foster population of students and ensured that the barriers leading to enrollment and academic success were never an issue for student success. Charie provided all homeless families with access to community resources and services necessary for home attainment and stability. Charie Jones was born and raised in Gary, Indiana and a product of a single parent home. Charie was homeless by definition of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act eighteen times with her four children, in Gary and Indianapolis. Charie’s homelessness enables her to show compassion and sympathy to the families and students she serves.
