Join Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott and the School Counselors for MTSS presenters as they walk district and school teams through MTSS and school counseling program alignment.

District and building-level teams will participate in 18 hours of professional learning, including virtual and in-person sessions and 1:1 coaching calls. Participants will also receive a copy of the book, Making MTSS Work.

What to Expect

Goals and Objectives

  1. Overview of scope and sequence for sessions
  2. Review needs assessment and knowledge/skills self-assessment
  3. Describe comprehensive school counseling (CSCP)/SC practice and MTSS
  4. Align CSCP/SC practice with MTSS
  5. Using the alignment to increase: Advocacy to stakeholders; Efficiency; Advocacy/systemic change/social justice/equity for students & families
  6. Tier 1 supports: systemic change and prevention
  7. Site specific action planning

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Define and rationale for data-driven practices
  2. Understand importance of culturally sustaining practices and its relationship to data-driven programs
  3. Utilize school data and compare to district and state data
  4. Identify and use data common to CSCP and MTSS
  5. Align data in CSCPs and MTSS
  6. Understand and conduct root cause analysis
  7. Understand and apply advanced model of data-driven practices, based on Young and Kaffenberger’s (2019) data model

  1. Establish culturally sustaining systemic process providing Tier 2/3 supports
  2. Develop strategies to collect and analyze data
  3. Identify evidence-based practices
  4. Document data-based progress monitoring plan

  1. Understand trauma and impact of trauma
  2. Learn strategies to support students and staff experiencing trauma
  3. Assess current practices and needs
  4. Conduct trauma-informed focused action planning
  5. Post assessment

School-based universal screening (US) allows school staff to identify the needs of the whole child, including those related to academic, career and social/emotional functioning. US may be particularly helpful in early identification, prevention, and interventions efforts post COVID-19. In this presentation, we outline eight steps to implement US, as well as benefits, challenges, and special considerations.

Participants Agree To

  • actively participate in virtual and in-person sessions during the 2022-2023 school year. 
  • complete between-training activities

PGP Points

  • Participants will earn up to 18 PGP points for attending all virtual, in-person, and coaching call sessions. 
  • Participants may earn additional PGP points for completing assigned tasks in between sessions.
